If you do the following in advance of a session with me, it’ll save a lot of time in the studio and will mean that you can make the most of the time you have on the shoot.
Start by making or folder (I use a scrapbook) of press ads, fashion stories, editorials, which attract you. There doesn’t have to be a specific reason for them appealing to you - a pose, the photographic composition, or the make-up or hair that you like in a shot is enough of a reason to tear the page out of the magazine and keep it. Very soon you’ll have a collection of ideas for poses, wardrobe, or even picture settings and composition.
When it comes to working on your posing, look through your file and start by copying the same poses in front of a mirror. Copy how the models are standing, where they put their hands, even expressions. Have a glass of wine, put some music on, do it how you like - but get used to posing for the mirror in a way that suits the outfit you’re wearing. Try and remember what it feels like to hold yourself in a pose that looks good. You don’t need a ‘routine’ of poses worked out, but sometimes it helps to have a few favourite poses ready, and you’ll feel more confident about being able to deliver on the day.
